CHOOSING YOUR SWIMSUIT
From my personal experience….
Knowing your body shape & style is very important before choosing which swimsuit will look best on you. Measure your hips at the widest point, waist at the smallest point & your bust at the fullest point, this will give you the best reference as swimsuit sizing & styling depends on these ratios.
Pear shape: is when your hips are significantly wider than your waist & bust.
Apple shape: is when your waist is significantly wider than your hips & equal or nearly as wide as your bust.
Hourglass shape: Is if your bust & hips are about the same width, but your waist is significantly smaller.
Straight up & down (ruler shape): is if you are thin all round with no significant difference between your hips, waist & bust, then you have a straight shape.
Selecting the right cut
One-piece swimsuit will hide your waist as will a 50’s style bathing beauty bottom that is high waisted.
High cut bikini bottoms will make your legs look longer. If you are short or your torso is long, this would be a good selection.
Halter tops will draw attention to the bust as do triangle tops.
Tie-front bikini tops will also draw attention to the bust, as well as pulling the breasts closer together which will effectively make them look larger.
If you have small breasts & want them to look larger this might be a perfect style fit for you.
For a large bust, look for a straight across cut at the top of your swimsuit, with wide set straps to minimize your bust or look for shoulder strap detailing, as the eye will automatically go there first!
Bikini’s are fairly limiting in terms of workouts in the pool or sea. Sport swimsuits have added features that support & are comfortable.
Your active wear Tankini is perfect for over your bikini or select a high neckline one-piece with short or long sleeves which would also be great for your pool or ocean workouts.
Remember, if you want to add volume to your bust or hips, choose a swimsuit with ruffles in that area.
To hide volume on the waist choose ruched fabric at the side seams & that will work a treat for you.
Purchasing bikinis that you can mix & match is a great idea.
If you want to highlight your bust but draw attention away from your hips you might like to buy a bikini top in a bright solid colour or pattern & buy a bottom that’s in black or a dark colour.
Swimsuits tend to enlarge when wet, so make sure you choose your body size & not larger than that! You certainly don’t want to lose your bikini when you dive into the pool & it can also cling unflattering when wet if it’s too large.
One-piece swimsuits can be very sexy, especially when you choose the right colour & a style that compliments your body shape. Colours & fabrics will highlight your best feature so choose wisely. The secret to a good swimsuit is drawing the eye to the most flattering parts of your figure.
To highlight a feature you like, choose a bright colour or pattern. To hide something you don’t like, choose a solid colour.
If you have pale skin, choose black or deep jewel tones.
If you have dark or olive skin, choose bright colours as this can be very flattering & helps hide what you don’t like.
